J-Me* Griffiths is a professional club DJ / Producer and scratcher, with over twenty years experience (including three years as scratch DJ and percussionist for Hybrid). J-Me* has been a dedicated Ableton Live user for over 8 years, and is one of 12 certified Ableton Live trainers in the UK and is currently based in Wales.

J-Me joined forces with; The Ministry Of Sound DJ Academy as one of their main advanced tutors in 2008. He was recently elected by the M.O.S as the main Ableton Live course leader. J-Me* is the main course leader of The DJ Academy Wales and is also a managing director for the Academy of Creative Arts.

J-Me* is a unique DJ and controls the dance floor wherever he plays. He captures the attention of all those he plays to with his fluid mixing and phenomenal scratching skills. With his amount of expertise and passion, you can be sure to be completely blown away – enjoy the music and the journey…

Beginner/Intermediate

This workshop has been divided into 3 parts, to help you understand what Ableton Live is intended for and how it can be used to create, record and perform.

Part 1: Learning about Ableton and what it can do
Part 2: DJ’ing with Ableton
Part 3: Ableton & Production


Topics covered will include:

Warp marking explained and demonstrated (warping with full length tracks)

Using the sampler to create REX files from audio loops and play back with MIDI control

Overview of J-Me’s DJ template set

Recording scene arrangements (play & record each scene to arrange page)

Organising clips with others in the session view (Improvising)


Participants must bring:

a Laptop and some Headphones

Ableton Version 8

Lennar Digital Sylenth and NI Massive (demos available)
